I know they are just a cheaper LandCruiser/LandRover, but thats just it: They are CHEAP. Anyone have any history with them? Worth the reliability risk? Better to get ____? What are your thoughts OPPO?

They are generally considered pretty reliable, but the V6 is known to be hit or miss, depending on maintenance. They have the distinct advantage of not being a land rover (better be a mechanic or learn fast) or a land cruiser (hard to work on and expensive)

My parents owned a 2000 Montero Sport. Drove 100000 so miles. Not so reliable. They had the manual transmission, (heel and toe!) , and the thing didn't have a lot of power..it got junked for 4500 via cash for clunkers.

Oh yes, they are dirt cheap but the fuel economy will run you dry.

Bad fuel economy is something I can work around if the rest of the traits are there. Was it capable offroad?

Ehh...I suggest you check up on some old Car and Drivers to look up the comparisons but the car was sluggish despite an aggressive appearance and a engine that sounded like a diesel.

I'm talking about the 1998 model but it might have changed.

they were good if they had the options for things like front, center and rear lockers
otherwise I'd rather have a isuzu trooper if I want a big, slow, ugly POS that will prolly roll and kill me someday

I didn't realize they could come with three locking diffs.
